FUNAO Osamu was born in 1960 in Kobe (Japan).
After graduating the University of Tsukuba (environmental science), worked at a publishing company as a editor.
Started to study photographs by self- education and climbing mountains.
First long travel to Africa and Asia for 22 months after stopped work.
While in Japan, working as a temporaly sweeper, went to climb many mountains around world like the Grandes Jorasses North Face (Europe Alps), Gasherburm T(Karakorum), El Capitan (Yosemite) etc and made many first ascent in Japan. Second long travel to Africa and Asia for 30 months during 1993 to 1996 and visited 33 African countries totaly.
Since 1996, work as a freelance photographer.
Taking documentary photographs about peoples various life and culture who live in Africa and Asia by a visual point of environment, ethnology, and civilization.
The greatest theme is the relations between a human being and the earth.
Now starting a new project [What is Japanese] to take pictures of Japanese villages old culture and custom.
